Can I password protect Adobe Reader or any documents?

I have backed up some files in Adobe Reader DC. Some of the files are personal and I would like to know if there is a way to password protect Adobe Reader DC or the documents themselves. Any assistance concerning this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!!

Hi Paulinfla,

Their is no such option to password protect Reader DC, unless you are using third part application Locker program.

Moreover, You cannot password protect a document using Adobe Reader, this feature is only available in Adobe Acrobat : https://acrobat.adobe.com/in/en/how-to/pdf-file-password-permissions.html

You can download a free 30 day trial of Acrobat DC using this Link : PDF converter, edit PDF, sign PDF anywhere | Adobe Acrobat DC

Please revert back if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Rahul

OK in this context, what's the difference between Acrobat Reader and Adobe Reader? I also need to password protect a PDF but I have Acrobat Reader and am struggling to find how to do it.

Hi. Acrobat Reader and Adobe Reader are one and the same. They just added "Acrobat" to the name in recent years. Don't confuse Adobe Acrobat Reader with Adobe Acrobat which is the software needed to add passwords to files. Acrobat Reader cannot do that.
