Can't drag tabs

New Here ,
Aug 12, 2017 Aug 12, 2017

So I am currently using the free version of the reader and before yesterday I would normally open up mutliple pdfs in different windows then drag the tabs together so they were all in one window.

However yesterday I was no longer able to drag the tabs, instead when I try and do so the cursor turns into a black circle with a line through it. AFAIK nothing has changed- the pdfs are the same ones I was viewing and I am using the same reader, same computer etc.

Anyone know what's happening and how to fix it so I can view all the pdfs in one window, because having to keep using the taskbar is really annoying.

Here is a quick workaround:

1) Select Edit->Preferences from menu (or press Ctrl+K)

2) Go to "Security (Enhanced)" under categories

3) Enable "Run in AppContainer (Beta)"

4) Save preferences and relaunch Reader

You should be able drag and reorder tabs.

I cant see the option "Run in AppContainer (Beta)"

But if you unclick "Enable Protected Mode at Startup" the result is the same - you can drag your tabs.

Firstly, AppContainer is an OS supported functionality. Unfortunately, it is available for Win 8.1 and above.

Secondly, Disabling "Enable Protected Mode at Startup" can be another workaround, However, this makes Reader process execute in a less secure mode. Hence, Adobe doesn't recommend turning it off. If you are using this option please ensure that you turn it on as soon as Adobe releases latest patch with the fix.

Just started running into this issue (December 2024). Worked around it by going to File: Disable New Adobe Reader

Fixed it. Click on Menu, the click Disable new Acrobat. A prompt will appear to confirm that you want to disable new acrobat. Acrobat will restart and you'll be able to drag tabs out like normal.Fix Drag Tab Issue.gif
