Can't see viewing window with the document

When I click to open a pdf, Adobe is open but there is nothing showing up -- no viewing window and no document. All the drop-down options make it look like the document is open and available for viewing. I don't get an error message saying there is an issue opening the file. I updated the software. I closed and restarted my computer. I uninstalled and then re-installed in case the application was corrupted. Still have the problem I am using a MacBook Pro running the latest version of High Sierra.

What version of the Adobe Acrobat Reader are you using?

Did it work before you upgraded to High Sierra?
