Can't sign PDF or send for Signature. How can I fix this?

I am using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, and I have an editable PDF opened in it. I want to sign the document digitally and send it for others to sign. However, I cannot find how to sign it myself, and I cannot send it for signatures either. When I try, I get an error saying that the file is unsupported. I really would rather not gather signatures on paper, so any help is much appreciated.

Hello Johnw,

We're sorry for the trouble you had while signing the PDF. Are you trying to use Adobe Fill and Sign feature or trying to sign the PDF using Digital ID/Certificate based signatures?

Is it a PDF form or a PDF with text? Is it possible to share the screenshot of the error you get? To share the screenshot, please refer to https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-7043#jive_content_id_How_do_I_attach_a_screenshot

Try signing the PDF through the URL https://cloud.acrobat.com/fillsign on a browser like Chrome or Firefox or Safari and check if you still get the error message.

What is the current dot version of Adobe Reader installed, to identify refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Navigate to PDF's Properties from File>Properties>Security>under Document Restrictions Summary, check if the signing is allowed?

Have you tried signing any other PDF? If not, please try and see if this issue is reproducible. Also, check for any pending updates of Adobe Reader from help>check for updates, reboot the machine after updating Adobe Reader.

Let us know how it goes and share your observation.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

I have been trying to use the fill and sign feature, but I cannot get it to work. I do not see the toolbar shown in the first link you sent.

I tried to use the URL you suggested, and I got this error:

pdferror.PNG

Signing is indeed enabled in my security settings, and no updates are enabled. I am using version 18.011.20055.

The issue seems to be constrained to this document specifically.

I noticed this when I tried to use the signing feature:

sendoptions.PNG

Might this have something to do with my problem?
