Hi All

I am having an issue with Acrobat Reader 2017.

I have to electronically sign a number of documents. All was good until recently when Acrobat started not being able to create the box. Now, when I select Digitally Sign, I go to create the box, choose my strting point, left click and immediately get the error dialogue box which states "A signature was not created. To sign the document hold down the mouse button and drag out the area of the document in which you would like the signature to appear."

There are no issues in any other programme and have tried with different mice.

Help!!

Cheers

Hi Adriangoz,

We're sorry for the trouble you had with the signature in Adobe Reader 2017, please sign out from Adobe Reader, reboot the machine and sign back in.

Check for any pending updates of Adobe Reader from help>check for updates, reboot the machine after updating Adobe Reader. Try signing the PDF again.

Assuming you are using the Certificate-based signature, try signing any other PDF and check if this issue is reproducible.

Reset Adobe Reader's Preferences once and reboot the machine, to reset the Preferences, refer to How to reset Acrobat Preference settings to default.

Is it a Mac or Windows machine and what is the version of the OS installed? What is the dot version of Adobe Reader installed? To identify, refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

Also, navigate to Edit>Preferences>Signatures>Creation & Appearances(More). Please uncheck the box "Use modern user interface for signing and Digital Id configuration"

Is it specific to one PDF or with all the PDF files?

Let us know how it goes and share your observation.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

I'm having a similar problem with an IRS form. I dl'd it opened it, filled it out almost but couldn't open the date field. Any ideas? I have closed Reader, rebooted my pc, and reopened it. I have checked for updates. I tried to reset the preferences but couldn't find a Preferences folder.

Hello Willardh,

We're sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. The issue seems to be with the type of PDF form as most of the forms(IRS) are created by LiveCycle Designer that has been Reader-enabled. Such forms are restricted with the sign feature.

Is it possible to share the PDF form with us so that we can test it at our end? To share the file, please use Adobe Send feature, login to https://cloud.acrobat.com/send using your Adobe ID(email) and password, upload the file, share the link to files via private message only, How Do I Send Private Message

Try signing any other PDF file and check.

Let us know how it goes and share your findings.

Thanks for your time and patience thus far.

Regards,

Anand Sri.
