CIDFont+F1 issue

New Here ,
Mar 20, 2018 Mar 20, 2018

I have received a PDF file as an attachment to an email and can open and view and print it from within the email but when I save the file to my computer and then try to open the file I get an error message saying that CIDFont+F1 cannot be created or found.  The file opens but the text is just displayed as a series of dots.

I have confirmed that I am using the most current version of Adobe Reader.

Any advice on what the problem might be and how to resolve would be appreciated.

That is an exporting problem. I mean some software or online programs when they export the PDFs they cant decode the font.

That is why you are getting that problem.

The font CIDFont+F1 is Arial (blod) and CIDFont+F2 is Arial (Regular)

Just in case, on the files I got with a similar issue F1 was mapped to Arial and F2 was Arial Bold.

This is super helpful and Arial was the font I was looking for. However, as others have mentioned this may not be the case for other files as these are generic given names to missing fonts, so, how did you "map" them? Thank you!

Hi @lin loves nature,

Hope you are doing well.

CID fonts are a bigger bracket of fonts which allows Asian langugages to be embedded in a PDF document.

You can refer to this document for more info: https://adobe.ly/3GiiQ3p.

Hope this clarifies your question.

Regards,
Souvik.

CIDFont+F1 is Arial Bold

CIDFont+F2 is Arial Regular

Does anybody know what CIDFont+F3 is?

Thanks in advance.

"CIDFont+F1 is Arial Bold

CIDFont+F2 is Arial Regular

Does anybody know what CIDFont+F3 is?"

No, that's not how it works - this was a mistake in the old post from years ago. That's what you may have found for a file or a number of files. But names like this just mean that the fonts are given random names in the order some app or person used them.

This is false. There are no specifc fonts assigned to those. For example, I have a document with "CIDFont+F1" as the font being used in a PDF, and the font in question was Tahoma, not Arial.

"CIDFont+F1" is not specific to any particular font. The best course of action is to identify the actual font that was used, or use a similar replacement.

NOT Ariel font style in my situation.

My CICFont+F1 looks similar to Copperplate, but isn't.

And as you may well know, Ariel and Copperplate are very different from each other.

Use "Times New Roman" family fonts in place of f1(times new roman regular), f2 (times new roman bold),

Try Roboto font instead of CID fonts.
