Comments Pane Won't Stay Collapsed

I am marking up a PDF and the comments pane keeps expanding and will not stay collapsed whenever I select a text box or shape I have placed on the page. Before today, I was always able to select, move, and resize these elements without the comments pane expanding. I don't understand why it will not stay collapsed now. The pane takes up too much room and zooms me out.

Is there any way to disable the pane from automatically expanding every time? I know how to disable it from expanding upon start up, but I just need it to stay collapsed when selecting shapes and text boxes.

Hi All,

Could you try updating Reader to the latest patch 19.010.20069 using  "Check for updates" option under "Help" menu,  Reboot the machine after installing update and check if that resolves the issue.

You may also download updates from here:  19.010.20069 Out of cycle update, January 03, 2019 — Release Notes for Acrobat DC Products

Thanks,

Hi Eplacek,

We're sorry for the trouble you had, would you mind sharing more details about the query/issue? Is it possible to post a screenshot? To post a screenshot, please refer to https://forums.adobe.com/docs/DOC-7043#jive_content_id_How_do_I_attach_a_screenshot

Are you referring to hide the righthand tool pane in Adobe Reader? If yes, you may refer to the following Adobe article Permanently close the Tools pane in Acrobat Reader DC

Are you on Mac or Windows machine and what is the version?

What is the version of Adobe Reader installed? To identify the version, please refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC

We're here to help, just need more info.

Thanks,

Anand Sri.

If I may add to this - I'm having the same issue, and it has been since my PC just had the Reader program updated. I'm on a PC, Windows 10, using Acrobat Reader DC, Continuous Release, version 2019.010.20064.

What happens with me is while I have a PDF open and am making comments on it, I keep the comments pane on the left collapsed because it takes up too much room on my screen. When I use the "Add text callout" tool, and need to resize the comment text box for whatever reason (so it's not hiding any text, so it doesn't run off the page, whatever), as soon as I select the text box to move or resize it, the comments pane on the left automatically expands and hides half of my screen. Then I have to re-collapse the comments pane, resize the box, and go on. It's just an extra step that's a pain and seems unnecessary.

Here are two screenshots - one before I select the comment text box, and another one after I select the text box. That's all I did, select the box, and the comments pane popped open.

I hope this helps you troubleshoot this issue. Like I said, it didn't do this before the recent upgrade.

Thanks for your help.
