Corrupt pdf file

I am trying to open up a pdf file that I had saved last week. It is about 17 MB. I emailed it over to someone, who couldn't open it. I am now trying to open it on my laptop where I had saved it, and it doesn't open up via Reader. After a very long time, it says 'can't open file - there is a problem with the file format,.
When I had saved it last week, i had then managed to open it fine. It just doesn't open now. Is there anyway I can either recover parts of it at least, or would there have been an 'autosaved copy' anywhere from last week.
Thank you in advance for your help

What is the exact message? Can you post a screenshot of it?

What can you see in the first lines when you open the file with notepad?

When opening with Word, it is just blank (No lines /messages at all) although when I go into the pdf properties, it is 17 MB.
I even tried going into 'restore previous version' but no joy.

An empty file is not a PDF file.

So, are you saying that there is nothing in that document? As I had saved it last week, and was able to open it again. it is when i then emailed it to someone that i now can't seem to get back into it, and it doesn't open. I assume it is irrecoverable then? If that's the case, is there any way i can get at least the previous saved copy of it (similar to how Word has an auto back up as a tmp file)?
