This solution is not practical for our enterprise environment.  We are trying to deploy the Reader 11.0.10 update and received this error on at least 27 computers.  We are deploying adobe update through System Center Updates Publisher 2011 and SCCM 2012.

Running the clean-up and running the full install does not solve this issue for me.

Situation: User reporting weird intermittant errors in Acrobat that are commonly solveable for a time if she closes the program all the way out and reopens. Clearly a good time to run updates. A slightly newer version is out (225 vs 255, last three digits) so I had her check for updates. She's set up to be able to run updates without administrator through the Creative Cloud app. It failed. I logged onto the machine as an administrator, tried the update, it failed. I uninstalled Acrobat to start fresh and ran the install through the CC app. It failed. I downloaded the stand-alone, it failed. I ran the cleanup, then ran the stand-alone installer, it failed.

I'm now sitting at my desk at 6:20pm with no idea how I'm going to keep this user running tomorrow. Much of her workflow is combining documents to send to clients. She has the full Adobe suite and relies on it foundationally.

Anyone have any suggestions besides opening a ticket with Adobe and seeing if they can help me make it mark the library for installation?

This is what worked for me

  1. Make sure Adobe is uninstalled from Control Panel Add Remove Programs
  2. navigate to "C:\Users\%userprofile%\AppData" and delete the Adobe folder from the Local, LocalLow, and Romaing Folders
  3. Restart the computer
  4. Extract the offline installer .exe using something like 7zip
  5. Using the extracted files manually run the AcroRead.msi
  6. Using the extracted files manually run the .msp file to install the update

If you have a management solution liks SCCM you can create a task sequence to run all of these steps.
