Fails to update to version 25.001.20432

Running Windows 7 (32-bit system) & fails to update from version 24.005.20421 only while logged into my administrator account or running as administrator using my standard user account.  The strange thing is that I logged into the standard user account this morning & within a few minutes I saw that it had been automatically updated after I looked at my programs and features.  I've tried all kinds of things like uninstalling and trying to reinstall the newer version & still fails during the installation.

Correct answer AnandSri

I suppose I was incorrect to say I fixed the problem.  I'm still getting Error 1328 when it fails to update.  The only way I can update is to uninstall it from my programs and features.  I next restart my P.C. in safe mode and newest version installs successfully.  In the first attached screenshot, my P.C. does not show a "setup" file in Program Data> Adobe.  The second screenshot is where I install it in safe mode successfully.  Any ideas on this?

Hello @hgw53t

I hope you are doing well. Thank you for sharing the detailed steps and for your cooperation.

Error 1328 typically occurs when:

  • A previous patch or update was applied incorrectly.
  • The installer cannot modify a file that was changed outside the update process.
  • The setup files  C:\ProgramData\Adobe\Setup\ are missing or corrupted.

This is why the update fails unless you fully uninstall and reinstall Acrobat in Safe Mode.

Try the suggestions from this article, and let us know if that works for you: https://adobe.ly/4lPu923

If this doesn't work, please reboot the machine, check for pending operating system updates, and install all the mandatory and optional updates. Then, restart the machine, use the Acrobat Cleaner tool to remove the currently installed Acrobat Reader, and install the Reader

For testing purposes, please create a test user profile with full admin rights, install Acrobat Reader, and check the performance.

Let us know how it goes.
