How do I compress a .pdf file

I've tried following the online instruction to do this to no avail.

Are you using Acrobat Standard, Acrobat Pro, or the free Adobe Acrobat Reader?

What instructions did you follow? Can you provide the link from Adobe?

If you are using a paid version, I will move this to the appropriate forum. The free Reader cannot do very much of what the paid versions do.
