How do I remove password protection from documents I have permission to view?

My insurance company is sending me documents & billing notices that require I enter a password to view them.  Obviously, I know the password, but it's time consuming to use it each time.  Is there a way to remove the password requirement on Reader DC for documents that are sent to me?

Hi daltxjim,

If you know the password, and have access to Acrobat, then you should be able to remove the password security. Just choose File > Properties after you open the PDF, and click the Security tab in the Properties dialog box to change the security settings. Unfortunately, this isn't something that you can do in Reader.

Hi Mayankj,

If you lost the password of the file, sadly, there is not much that can be done.

And using Acrobat there is no option to remove the security, feel free to update the discussion if you have further questions.

I'm having the same issues in Reader.  it says it has an open password or a modify a password.  I've wasted an hour trying to print a bank statement I have printed off a 100 times in the past.  why is this an issue today!

You have the password to view the PDF, but it may also be protected from changing it with a separate password.
