How do I stop tools pane and bookmark pane from opening when I open a document

I find that recently all my pdf documents that I open open with the bookmark and tools pane visible.  I do not want this and as I open multiple documents at a time it is making my working life very difficult.

I have noted that previous advice was to open the document, close the bookmark pane and the tools pane.  The advice is then to go to Preferences/documents and to tick the box "Remember current state of tools pane" then close Adobe Reader and start up again.  I have done this numerous times and it does not work.

Please help me someone

Many thanks in advance

Does this happen with all files or just those from a specific provider? It's possible the files have a setting (or even a script) that opens the Bookmark pane, although not the Tools pane. If you share a sample file with us we could let you know if that's the case.

Hello thank you for the reply.

You may be right that it is not all files but it is both the bookmark pane and the tools pane that opens.

As requested attached is a copy of one of the .pdf documents which is causing me issues.

You can't change this with Acrobat Reader. In Adobe Acrobat you change the Initial View.

It seems the Initial View setting overrides the "last view setting" option. As mentioned, you can't change it using Reader.

I have adobe Acrobat Reader DC I subscribe monthly to get the ability to export. it is not the free version.

It is a real pain and I will be pretty upset if there is no solution as it makes working efficiently very difficult.

You can't subscribe to Reader DC. It's a free application. You either subscribe to Acrobat DC or to one of the online PDF services Adobe offers. Only the former will allow you to change this setting.

I subscribe to Acrobat DC Pro.  Included in the suite of apps is Adobe Reader.  The app when it is open on my computer is called Adobe Acrobat Reader DC see attached screen shot.

Not being the most knowledgeable person in the ins and outs of Adobe am I using the wrong program on my computer?

Yes, you are. You need to install Acrobat DC and use it, instead of Reader. You should be able to do it via the Creative Cloud app, if it's included in your subscription.
