How do I use a 10 year old app with Acrobat Reader in 2020?

I want use a software programme that came out in 2010.

It's a library archive on DVD with thousands of articles in pdf format.

The search software works exactly as it should. Yet when I try to retrieve a pdf, Acrobat shows a blank screen.

When the software came out, Version 9 was the default.

Will current versions of Acrobat Reader not open older pdfs?

Any ideas for a workaround?

Thanks.

Does it show a blank screen or does it just sit there as if it wasn’t asked to open anything? Are you able to open random PDFs from the CD?

It opens up my current version of Acrobat Reader but doesn't load the pdf itself.

However, I can load the pdf's themselves direct from the DVD. There are thousands of them though and none with meaningful file names...so I need to access them via the sofware to figure out what I'm looking at.

Thanks.

That means the issue is with how the software (tries to) load the PDF file in the application.

It probably doesn't specify the correct file-path to it, or something like that.

Thanks.

Any idea how I can resolve this?

I'm surprised that newer versions of Reader aren't backwards compatible.

Try this:

Disable the protection mode in the preferences of Acrobat Reader.
