How to export PDF as image file?

New Here ,
Sep 06, 2017 Sep 06, 2017

So I have done this dozens of times in the past but today when I went to export a PDF to an image I realized I cannot seem to find image files anywhere on the list of types to export to? All I am seeing is .docx, .doc, .rtf, .xlsx, .pptx ...none of which help with my current project.

What changed and why? How do I recover this functionality?

Edit: Wow Adobe really screwed this up didnt they? Just discovered that I cannot even print as an image! Seriously...do I need to downgrade to Acrobat Pro 9? Really fed up with this.

Hi,

Sorry for the inconvenience.

Adobe Reader does not support conversion of pdf to image. You can achieve the same through online Export PDF service: https://cloud.acrobat.com/exportpdf

Let us know if that works.

Poorvi

Do you use Adobe Acrobat or Acrobat Reader?

Acrobat Reader is not the same as Acrobat Pro. Reader is the free application for viewing/printing pdf files. Not for exporting or editing.

As for "Downgrading" to Acrobat Pro 9, you won't be downgrading since they are not the same application.

It seems like pretty basic functionality to be able to export a PDF to an image file...it seems that with Acrobat Reader DC I cannot even print a PDF as an image file. Is that true?

Im pretty frustrated with this and your tone doesnt help one bit.

Not sure what you mean by "tone". I was just passing along information. Sorry if you inferred the wrong tone to my message.

Reader cannot and never has been able to print as an image file (It has the ability to "Print as image" but that is unrelated to what you are actually wanting). To do what you want, you need to have the paid version of Adobe Acrobat. Reader has never been intended or been able to do what you want to do.

Then it certainly sounds like I need to downgrade to an older version of Acrobat given how the current version of Pro is only on a ridiculous subscription model.

As for the issue with Acrobat Reader DC...I certainly dont have the ability to "Print as image" which would likely work for my current needs even if its not the functionality I would really like. Here is what I see on the advanced print options page - just a greyed out option:  https://i.gyazo.com/571e13f5538f38828232693f0c429ea7.png

Unfortunately, all Adobe products are going that way. Many companies are doing the same thing. Good for some, not for others.

Sorry. I can't see the image you posted but from the sounds of it, it could be that the pdf is already an image (a scanned document for instance) so "print as image" wouldn't be available. But from the sounds of it, it wouldn't do what you want anyhow. That option is used to force a document to print to a physical printer as an image file would and its most popular use is if the document has some font issues and isn't printing properly. It will not print to a file as an image which is my understanding of what you want.

If you Google it, there are some pdf to jpg converters out there that are free is that's all you want to do. I haven't had a chance to use any of them so can't recommend one.
