How to permanently rotate pdf 90 deg?

Whenever I open a certain pdf doc it is shown clockwise rotated by 90 deg.
Ok I can de-rotate it by clicking the appropriate menu in Adobe Reader.

But is there a way to save this pdf so that it is automatically shown correctly at next opening WITHOUT having to explicitely rotate it through AR menues?

If yes: How?

If you have the free version of Adobe Reader XI (and perhaps others) this is what you do:

1. Rotate the page the way you want.

2. Then, go to "Edit" (not "View") at the top of the page.

3. Select "Preferences".

4. Then select the "Documents" category.

5. Under "Open Settings" checkmark the option to "Restore Last View Settings When Reopening Documents".

This will keep your rotation next time you open the document.

Have you checked that someone opening the document in DC will see it in the new rotated view?

I have followed the steps and successfully saved it in the new view. When I opened the file it opened in the new view. When I opened the file using DC it reverted back to the old view. That means if I send the document to someone using a reader, it will not look right.

This, IMV means that Adobe is broken. They needs to realize that their software it is a tool, and we are not Adobe tribal followers, These things need to instinctive from a user perspective.

I have wasted 1 hour of my valuable time trying to make this work, and as a paying customer that is a huge FAIL.

Does anyone know of 3rd party software that will fix this? I thank you in advance.

If you pay for Acrobat Pro, then rotate pages in the organiser or search tools for rotate. And, it is worth understanding the difference between rotating views (temporary) and rotating pages (permanent, if you save).

I am sorry, I don't quite follow what you mean.

If you mean using the cntrl/shift R menu to permanently rotate the pages instead of the rotate function under view, I believe I have successfully done that. I tested closing and reopening the pages in Pro. It worked, the pages remained rotated as desired.

When I used the reader to open them, they reverted to the previous view. When I reset the reader to maintain the view, it worked. When I used another computer to open the files, they reverted to the previous view.

It does appear to be the case that there is no permanent 'rotate' function for all practical purposes.

This is a wholly unsatisfactory result by any standard.

If it is a requirement that you have a Phd in Adobe to perform this simple task, then it is a huge fail, and adobe can be described as broken.

‌I am not familiar with the menu you mention. Please try what I said and let us know if it makes no sense. One of the problems with Acrobat certainly is that it can do so many, many things. The DC redesign had the audible aim of making it easier. Opinions differ on the success

I am talking about the tools menu.

Anyway, the need has passed, I just sent the document over. It was rotated on my computer, but not on the recipient computer. This function is a complete waste of time. Even if I found out how it works, because it is so unclear, and I use the edit function so infrequently, I am not sure I would remember how to the next time I needed it.

I find adobe pro on the whole counter-intuitive and not very useful. I am sure it works, but evidently not many people know how it works. This is a shame; it is such a basic edit function.

Ok, with more detail.

Probably easiest is to use SEARCH TOOLS and type "Rotate". This will show you several choices. Choose Organize Pages. (This is also in the default panel on the right hand side, or under View > Tools > Organize Pages).

From here you can do various things to pages including Rotate. There are also rotate icons on the special Organize toolbar.

This isn't especially obvious to find, but it's important to know about. On no account use View > Rotate View as it only rotates the view, not the page.

That's fine and good, except that Acrobat's rotate page functionality is broken. NONE of the rotate page commands have any effect. Ironically, the rotate view function works fine. Several pc's, all exhibit this behavior.

Known bug? Maybe so considering the number of posts asking for this functionality to be restored in the latest (not so) greatest versions of Acrobat.

I haven't noticed any such posts (except the ones here, which nobody has followed up enough to show whether anything is broken.) Please share URLs to support this.

Rotate view works fine and isn't saved. That's exactly what it is supposed to do, it would be wrong otherwise.

Are you specifically using the Organize pages function? Please describe your EXACT steps and what happens, since this all hinges on whether the right or wrong functions are used.

1. Be sure to use Adobe Acrobat (I use X Pro) to open the pdf file (not Adobe Reader). On the Acrobat screen, choose a recently opened file, or click "Open" at the bottom to search for the file you want.

2. Click "View" on top toolbar, then "Tools" to "Pages" to "Rotate" (= first icon on top). Choose which way to rotate ("Direction"), then click button for "All" pages (or indicate which pages you want to rotate).

3. Click OK to start the rotation.

4. Save the resulting rotated pages file. Then you can open and read it with Adobe Reader.

You are correct twice over. 1. It is not in Reader. 2. Everything left out of Reader is a marketing strategy for Pro by which I mean the option to rotate pages permanently.

However, making the document rotated isn't a marketing strategy. Reader opens PDF files correctly according to their true orientation (What the PDF creator writes).

Pro has an Action feature that can act on a batch of files. Maybe it can rotate a batch that were made wrong.

Best answer I found (from another website...)
Open the Panel on the left edge (to get to the view where you can see the thumbnails of the pages). Then select the pages you want and right click. Then select "rotate pages". On my Mac version there were clockwise and anti-clockwise icons right there. Once thats done, save the PDF. This will save the new rotated view.

(This works because this rotate actually rotates the pages and is different from the "view>rotate" option that does not actually "save" the rotated view)

I have Adobe Acrobat DC for Macbook: Go to TOOLS, click on ORGANIZE PAGES, then rotate and SAVE. Worked for me!
