How to print a PDF that is already organized as booklet?

New Here ,

I'm trying to print a PDF that is already organized as booklet. Meaning, page 1 is the cover (portrait), page 2 is pages 2-3 (landscape), page 3 is pages 4-5 (landscape) etc... last page is the back cover (portrait again).

I have a duplex printer.

What print setting should I put to let it organize the print as a booklet automatically (to be folded in the middle)?

I tried normal printing and it prints page 1 on a full page (instead of half) and puts pages 2-3 behind it. Booklet printing prints 4 pages on a single sheet (instead of 2 pages on a single sheet) - it seems to be the desired print setting for a regular PDF (that is not already organized as PDF).

Thanks,

Roee.

PDF files like this are not made for printing as booklets. By choosing to show spreads on screen for some reason, this pretty much locks out turning it back to printer’s spreads.

Hi Roees,

As you have mentioned that the PDF file is already organized as booklet. And as explained above, that-

"I tried normal printing and it prints page 1 on a full page (instead of half) and puts pages 2-3 behind it."

In this case I would suggest to print the first page separate and rest all the pages staring from Page-2 (which is actually page 2-3) as normal printing "Single page duplex printing" that might help you, as Page-1 has single page in it not like other pages so it would cover the entire page not half.

"Booklet printing prints 4 pages on a single sheet (instead of 2 pages on a single sheet)"

If you will select Booklet printing then that would rearrange the PDF which is already in booklet format which might not be helpful.

You can check the "Multiple" option as suggested in Print PDFs in Acrobat Reader  that may would help.

Else, you have to get it done by normal printing or turning the duplex printing off or as suggested above, printing the cover and back cover separately.

Hope this helps.

Regards,

Akanchha

Thanks for the reply Akanchha.

Re the first option you suggested:

If the end result is to print it as a booklet and be able to fold it in the middle, the first sheet should include the last page (assuming even number of pages) and first page, each on half a sheet. Similarly, printing the rest in normal duplex would also not serve that purpose since it would print pages 2-3 on one side of the sheet, and pages 4-5 on the other side, and that would not allow it be folded in the middle and still be organized in the correct order.

Eventually I can handle the cover and back cover separately, but none of the existing options seem to allow me to print the rest in a manner that would allow it to be folded in the middle, duplex or not.

I'm realizing that's the first answer by Test Screen Name sadly summarizes it up... (I really don't understand then why would someone prepare the PDF in this way in the first place)

Place the front cover and the back cover on the same page. IE Page one should have the front cover art on the right and the back cover art on the left of a Landscape oriented  page.

Thanks, but as I mentioned that doesn't allow the entire set to be folded in the middle and still keep the correct ordering of the pages.
