I don't know if this is still a problem, but I've come up with a simple solution.

Copy the image you want to paste to clipboard (right-click "copy image" on internet or use Microsoft "snipping tool" - "edit" - "copy")

Open the "comment" toolbar in Adobe Reader and select the "add stamp" tool. Select the last item titled "Paste Clipboard Image as Stamp Tool

This was done using Adobe Reader 2017

This works but I have the white box background.  I like being able to place a png with a tranparent background.

How sad that a multi-step workaround must be used for a simple function like Add Image.  Worse yet, in January 2021, not even that workaround works.

Maybe Adobe moved to closedown this loophole. Acrobat Reader only exists to sell Acrobat.

Hi,

Inserting an image in a PDF is part of Editing which wont be possible using free Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. You will require Acrobat application Download Adobe Acrobat free trial | Acrobat Pro DC to achieve this goal Acrobat Help | Editing PDFs.

But Heaven's, now! By all means, don't tell us how to do it if we DO have Acrobat. That would just be crazy.

Using the Add Image tool (under Tools - Content Editing).

And you can drop the sarcastic tone. If you ask a question we'll answer it, but that was not the question asked above.
