Installation update taking such a long time and freezing my computer

I was trying to install an update for my free Adobe Reader using the Adobe link.  I accessed the link via Google Chrome.  I got to Step 1 of 3 where it prompts me to "Install Now" - I did that, which downloaded the installer.  I ran the installer where it showed the "progress" (or lack thereof) bar, but after at least 5 minutes NOTHING had progressed.  I then cancelled the installation, then my computer just froze up, so I had to do a "hard reboot."  I went through this several times, with the same result, and sometimes the computer froze during the running of the installer before I could cancel out due to lack of progress.  Now my computer just won't plain turn on. . . . or is taking an inordinate amount of time to start up . . . .  .

HELP!!!!

    Hi Josephs,

As per the issue description mentioned above, the computer freezes when trying to install an update for Adobe Reader, is this correct?

    Please try following troubleshooting steps:

1- Download and run cleaner tool from here: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

    2- Reboot the machine.

3- Download and install Reader DC from here: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution (select the operating system, language, and version from the drop-down options available).

Let us know how it goes.
