It won't update.. for awhile now I've been trying to update adobe acrobat reader and it says.. error 1646.. uninstallation of the update package is not supported.. What must I do to correct this? I've tried removing it myself and re-install.. but it won't uninstall.. Help please
Thanks, Meenakshi. My problem is resolved, though I'm not sure it's because of the tool. I didn't uninstall the whole suite, just Adobe Acrobat (using the CC app). I then ran the tool just to produce the XML file. When I looked at it, there was no entry for Adobe Acrobat so nothing to uncomment. I then just tried to install Acrobat from the CC app and this time, it installed fine and I was able to apply the subsequent security update by checking for updates through the Acrobat Help menu. Hi patrikl87606525,
Sorry for the delay in response.
Try to run the cleaner tool Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs and restart your system.
Then re-install application from here: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution
Let us know how it goes.

Meenakshi

Hi,
For the cleanup tool you mentioned, it says on the download page that it should not be used for any creative suite products including suites that contain Acrobat. Does this apply to a Creative Cloud subscription that includes Acrobat DC?

Hi Dhock,
The cleaner tool mentioned in reply 2 is applicable only to the standalone Adobe Acrobat subscription.
For CC subscription, you need to use cleaner tool for CC applications.
Please refer this help document Use the Creative Cloud Cleaner Tool to solve installation problems for more information and to download the cleaner tool.
Let us know if you need any help.

Meenakshi

Before, I had gotten the 1646 error when re-installing Acrobat (it had mysteriously gotten uninstalled). Although the installation had appeared to succeed (had the Open option in CC app), when I tried to check for updates and run, it failed with the same error. Anyway, looks like everything is back in order now.
