Question

Make Adobe plugin for Chrome default

I am trying to make the Adobe Acrobat plugin for Google Chrome the default PDF viewer when opening PDF's in Chrome. I've already got the Chrome setting set to "Open PDFs in Chrome" but specifically, I want to use the Adobe Acrobat extension and NOT the built in Chrome PDF viewer.

Does anyone know of a way to do this?

Hi bgorsky407,

Thank you for reaching out.

Please let us know if you have already installed the Acrobat extension for the browser. If yes, what happens when you try to open the PDF?

If it is not installed, please refer to the information on the following help page: https://adobe.ly/48DeAUL

Let us know if you need any help.

Thanks,

Meenakshi

I have it working for myself. I am the admin and am trying to push this out to my org. I can't rely on users to set the Acrobat extension as the default PDF viewer. We use Windows Group Policy to manage several features in the Chrome browser but the only setting in Chrome is to either download PDF's (to open in Acrobat Desktop) or Open PDF's in Chrome. I would like to set the policy to "Open PDF's in Chrome" but use the Acrobat extension and not Chrome's built in PDF viewer.

Hi @bgorsky407 , Apologies for the inconvenience caused to you. As an admin, you can install Acrobat extension and push it to all your orgs silently. Please refer to Chrome enterprise policy list - https://chromeenterprise.google/policies/#ExtensionInstallForcelist, follow the instructions on the page and use extension ID - efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj to install Acrobat extension silently. This way, extension will be installed on your machines and PDFs in browser will start opening with the Acrobat extension. Let me know if you still face any issues.
Thanks,
Shilpa
