McAfee FRP encrypted pdf files are not opening due to adobe reader protection mode.

Hi Team,

FRP v 5.0.2.167

Adobe Reader v 11.0.19

I have McAfee FRP ( Files and Removable media protection - 5.0.2.167) installed on my machine. I have encrypted some PDF files with it and when I tried to open the files I used to get following error

" There was an error opening this document. Access Denied."  Then I got to know the workaround on it as below.

Disable Protected Mode in Adobe Reader 10:
Click Edit, Preferences, General.
In the left pane, deselect Enable Protected Mode At Startup.
Close and re-open Adobe Reader.

Disable Protected Mode in Adobe Reader 11:
Click Edit, Preferences, Security (Enhanced).
In the right pane, deselect Enable Protected Mode At startup.
Close and re-open Adobe Reader.

Although there is a workaround, I don't feel comfortable leaving it disabled. I would like a response from the team, if any patch available for it so that I can run both application simultaneously without any issue.  Please note this is only happening with PDF files and not with any word , excel, ppt files.

Did you try the current version of Reader? There will never be patches for X, and XI only has a few months left.

Hi ,

I am using Adobe Reader v 11.0.19.

I have got the below link for protected mode, as per my search i got the below information

http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/860/cpsid_86063.html.

Protected Mode was introduced with Adobe Reader X and continues to be Adobe's primary defense-in-depth security strategy for mitigating and preventing security vulnerabilities. Protected Mode protects you by limiting what malicious files can do and access. Protected Mode is enabled by default, and it is designed to run transparently in the background while protecting your hardware and data.

Now I already have a mcafee FRP for encryption and i don't want to disable protection mode of adobe reader as well, is there any way that I can use both application simultaneously without any issue of opening the pdf in reader even if it is encrypted.

Yes, that's why I asked if you are using the current version? Patches to the old version 11 are really only likely to be for security issues now. It runs out of support in a few months, so why such old software?
