I though Adobe might have grown out of such silly tricks - see previous threads on this topic going back several years. Obviously not as it's just happened to me in January 2018. Bad move - I might go to another PDF reader now.
I always see the box that you can uncheck. Not sure what's going on there. Anyway, you can download it here without Mcafee: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

That is not completely true. The case is there, but whether you accept it or refuse it, it always downloads the same 1180 KB file and starts installing.

Yep, it took me 20 minutes to remove the McAfee virus from my machine after Adobe surreptitiously installed it. What a crock. ADOBE installs security holes into a system as a condition of accepting software. And McAfee's VIRUS uninstaller won't completely remove it after you remove the two "documented" products installed. I had to go and manually remove files and registry entries afterwards.

This is an optional offer when you download the installer from Adobe. By default it is not selected, though. You have to actively click two check-boxes on the download page to get these add-ons.

It was selected by default for me and that part of the page loaded slower than the rest, meaning I never actually saw it.

Same here. It just installed on my rig unwanted. WTF. I hate Adobe. It's like going Greyhound. It's about the only choice you have and it massively sucks.

Hard to believe that this same "scam" is being fun in July 2024. Only this time a small popup occurs when trying to uninstall McAfee. The solution is to select the popup window and press the tab key twice. This then shows you the "Uninstall" button instead of clicking to buy McAfee. Hope this helps someone else as much as it did me.

THANK YOU. The adobe download came with the McAffee virus which refused to be uninstalled with their own tool. The truncated box did not allow me to reach the uninstall button. With all those tricks, why would I choose that virus protection company? But, tab-tab and I was done. What a waste of time. To think that I have a paid copy of Adobe on another computer makes me re-think the issue when the license expires.
