Missing core dll?

I can open Reader DC in 64-bit Win 10 only with Admin privilege, otherwise get "Acrobat failed to open its core dll" message. Same message when clicking on a .pdf file (but it does work if I open with MS Edge). Also, MS files can save as .pdf despite the same error message which appears after saving.

I've tried repair, clear and re-install, and changing security permissions; any suggestions about what next?

(2 other similarly configured PCs, with different hardware, work fine).

I got a fix!

Go to your Adobe Reader folder.

Right-click on AcroRd32.exe

Click Properties.

Then click on Compatibility Tab.

Click on Run this program as an administrator.

Apply and Save.

Try opening a PDF file.

A prompt of User Account Control will open.

Click on YES and Voila!

Anyone have the new link for the cleaner? Evidently it seems...that Adobe is forcing the new Creative Cloud...even to people who purchased Adobe over the years, over and over for updates, but are now trying to stop from using Cloud. (Adobe erased my files for my former Adobe Pro that I paid them for, and now when I reinstall it, they Cloud version (that I tried as a trial, and hated), has taken my own laptop hostage. Thanks for your help, if you can. Once I loved Adobe...no longer do at all.

The fix will work for domain pc as well? Will it ask to enter admin cred every time when we open Adobe Reader or pdf files? Tried removing Adobe Reader using removal tool, and reinstall, repaired still facing same error - Failed to load core dll

Hope you are doing well. Sorry for the trouble.

I would like to suggest three steps. Please try and let me know if it works:

1. Disable Protected Mode: Open Adobe Reader, go to Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced), and uncheck "Enable Protected Mode at startup." This can sometimes resolve DLL loading issues.

2. Re-register DLLs: You can try re-registering Adobe DLLs by running Command Prompt as an administrator and executing the following commands:

For 32 bit

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroRd32.dll"
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroRd32.dll"

For 64 bit

regsvr32 /u "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroRd32.dll"
regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader\AcroRd32.dll"

3. System File Checker: Run the System File Checker tool to repair any corrupted system files. Open Command Prompt as an administrator and run: sfc / scannow

Facing the same problem on Windows 10 64 bits. after the latest update. Have already tried all the fixes mentioned Including clean Uninstall and more to no avail. Don't think posting here is going to help looking at the responses above, but still putting this up in the forum.

The Error window reads ~~ Fatal Error: Acrobat failed to load its core dll.

I haven't really seen any. Mostly it has been due to malware over the last couple of years. I just haven't seen it pop up in months where it used to be daily.

Since you can't start-up Reader to check for updates, I would remove it completely using the Cleaner Tool from Adobe found here: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Once that is done, reinstall from here: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

Hopefully that will take care of it.

Hi, not sure if I should start an new thread. But I've the same problem since the latest Windows 10 update. I've tried all the suggestions above but still can't open Acrobat Reader. Any ideas?

the culprit is your antivirus, normally Microsoft defender. uninstall and reinstalling adobe acrobat then install another antivirus like Kaspersky free cloud antivirus. Add adobe installation folder to the exclusion list of Kaspersky.
