Multiple Suspended AcroRd32.exe processes

New Here ,
Dec 07, 2017 Dec 07, 2017

Hi,

I am lodging this question as one of our staff members when opening PDF files or even Adobe Reader by itself also spawns several suspended AcroRd32.exe processes with it. This in turn consumes a lot of CPU resources and slows the machine. Once all of the processes are closed everything works as expected.

We have tried the latest version of Adobe Reader DC and the previous build.

Any advice is welcomed.

Thank you.

--- Update ---

Each process consumes 20kb of memory and there is no set amount of spawned processes.

Turning off the 'Messages' from either the GUI or the registry does not fix the issue.

This happens on Windows 10 x64, 16GB RAM running on an SSD to multiple machines.

We have tried a manual reinstall from multiple sources (Adobe website and installing via Chocolatey) also clearing Adobe RegKeys after each install.

Hi AWELTD,

Sorry for the delay in response.

Are you still facing this issue? If yes, try disabling protected mode by going into Preferences > Security ( Enhanced ) > uncheck the box next to Enable protected mode at startup > click OK and try again.

Note: Disabling protected mode is for troubleshooting purpose only, enable protected mode when troubleshooting is complete.

Thanks,

Shivam

Hi Shivam,

This has fixed the issue - Is there an update coming out that will resolve this so we can enable protected mode again?

Thanks

Hi AWELTD,

Glad to hear that the issue has been fixed after disabling protected mode. For testing purpose, could you please try following troubleshooting steps:

1- Re-enable protected mode by navigating to Edit > Preferences > Security (Enhanced)

2- Relaunch Reader as an administrator: Run an Adobe program as administrator | Windows 7, Vista

Thanks,

Shivam

Hi Shivam,

Unfortunately running as administrator does not resolve the issue.

Thanks

I am experiencing the same problem. And I cannot get to the security menu before Adobe Reader DC 18.011.20036 is 'Not Responding'.

Every time Adobe is opened, two new AcroRd32.exe *32 are created. Once Adobe is closed, one occurrence of AcroRd32 is closed and one is left behind. After multiple tries of opening Adobe Reader DC, you will have multiple occurrences of AcroRd32.

As AWELTD has tried, I have uninstalled application, run Adobe's uninstaller application, and re-installed Adobe Reader DC.

Any other suggestions?

Hi AWELTD, Stevens,

Sorry for the delayed response.

Could you try changing following setting in Reader's preferences and check if that helps?

Click Edit > Preferences > General > uncheck the box next to Show me messages when I launch Adobe Reader > click OK, relaunch Reader.

Thanks,

Shivam

Hi Shivam,

We had already tied this and it did not work. I tried disabling that option in the GUI and in the Registry.

Thanks

Hi AWELTD,

i had the same issue. I have right now solved it. The Problem was same. Open a PDF file. Then closing Acrobat Reader, but AcroRD32.exe runs with 25% CPU usage.

Our Firewall had coused the Problem. Acrobat Cloud was disabled. I have enabled this service on our Firewall and the Problem disappeard.

Thanks
