Exactly what did you download from where? The only “freeware” is Adobe Acrobat Reader, not Acrobat Pro or Acrobat Standard.
To download and install Adobe Acrobat Reader, go to https://get2.adobe.com/reader/, uncheck the options for so-called “optional offers” and click on the Download Acrobat Reader button.

Of course Adobe wants you to pay. That isn't a freeware product!

It works like this. Acrobat Reader is completely free. You can use it to view PDF, print, fill in forms, add notes. ALSO Adobe have paid services. Such as create PDF, combine PDF, export to other formats, edit PDF. These are NEVER free from Adobe. Tool buttons like "Edit" in Acrobat Reader take you to a chance to pay. The basic functions (o view PDF, print, fill in forms, add notes...) are still free.
Why? Because the free Acrobat Reader is free to get you hooked on PDF, so you will pay for more! This is normal with free apps.

And I assume that whatever you do for a living should be given away for “free” also, correct?

This is such a nasty response. Adobe Acrobat has some free things you can do, but I am having the same problem as the person you responded to -- I am trying to use Adobe Acrobat Reader JUST TO VIEW A PDF and it is not allowing me. It is saying I HAVE TO purchase something. When I click no, it exits out of Acrobat immediately. I can't even use the free functions. I came here to find if there was a solution to this, but instead all I see is you being incredibly nasty to people. Shame on you.

From what i gather ( I am having the same troubles as above) we may have to uninstal our current version of Adobe and reinstal the reader version? I think its once you have paid for it, it updates the software and you can no longer use the free part.... not sure but im going to give it a go!

Hi there
Hope you are doing well.
The 64-bit application is a unified application for Acrobat and Acrobat Reader. If you have installed Acrobat Reader 64-bit and you purchase an Acrobat subscription, the Acrobat Reader 64-bit application will upgrade to become a fully functional Acrobat 64-bit application.

This is crazy. I have the same issue. For around 20 years, I have used the free Reader to open and view PDFs. Since my company got me licenses for other Adobe products, I can now no longer open and view PDFs. It wants me to get a 7-day trial. I just want to read a PDF!!! Why is this so challenging?

I have the same issue. It's quite annoying and stupid!

Okay i think i found the solution. Uninstall it from your Creative Cloud Desktop app and then install it from here: https://get2.adobe.com/reader/

In my case, the solution was to login to Creative Cloud. For whatever reason I had been logged out and (stupidly) it still woudln't let me use the basic reader logged out,

Tried that ...did not work either.

Hi there,
Hope you are doing well and sorry for the trouble.
Would you mind sharing more details about the issue you are experiencing? What is the workflow/steps you are taking. A small video recording of the steps and the issue as it occurs would be very helpful.
Also try updating the application to the latest version 25.01.20756 go to Help > Check for updates and reboot the device once and see if that help.

I'm having the same issue.
In my company, most employees use Acrobat Reader without a license, while some have a license.
I'm an IT technician and, while I only need Acrobat reader, I might have used in the past one of my colleagues's license to test a couple of features and explain how to use them (the latest one, if I'm not wrong, was anonymization a few monthe ago).
I'm now logged in the website with an Adobe account thta has no licenses .
I uninstalled Adobe Acrobat from my PC, and also run AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2021.exe.
Every time I run the installer (I tried multiple versions downloaded from https://get.adobe.com/reader/ - for the Italian version - https://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/ - MUI version - and also the Microsoft store one) and I open Acrobat reader for the first time, it downloads an upgrade and then starts asking me to login with a licensed account or start a free trial.
I've tried to delete every files named "adobe" from my computer after the uninstalls, but this issue still happens.
I also didn't find any reference in the registry about the adobe ID that have licenses assigned.
Is there a way to stop the upgrade to Adobe Acrobat Pro and stick with the free reader?

I hope I'm not singing victory too soon, but - following the suggestion in a Redit post that pointed to https://www.adobe.com/devnet-docs/acrobatetk/tools/DesktopDeployment/singleinstaller.html#enable-ser... - I added the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\DC\FeatureLockDown:“bIsSCReducedModeEnforcedEx”=dword:00000001
and now Acrobat has stopped asking me to login, and quit if I don't.

Hello everyone - I might have found a solution for this.
Note: I uninstalled all versions of adobe acrobat from my desktop first.
1. If you go to adobe acrobat reader free (search on Google). Once clicked,
2. scroll down and click the 'more download options' under the download acrobat reader button at the bottom of the page.
3. Make sure that the 'Acrobat add-on' is UNticked. This is the extension for Google Chrome that seems to be causing the payment first window to pop up everytime you try to view a pdf file. This way, a different window will pop up, showing their add-ons. You can just get out of this window and should be able to proceed with the normal free viewing advantages.
