New user: can't save form

New Here ,
Jan 26, 2018 Jan 26, 2018

Hello,

Forgive my inexperience.

I have a fillable pdf file that i use for my home inspections.

I can open the file and fill it in no problem. but when i go to save it - it saves all the work i input as blank.

So i am having to print the file without saving it - scan it in to my computer and then save the file.

Am i missing something?

Forever grateful for any help!

Assuming you are opening it in Reader, try going to Reader - Preferences - JavaScript and disable JavaScript. Then fill in the form, save it, close it and open it again. If the data is still there then there's a script embedded in the file that's resetting it when it is opened.

Unless the form has been enabled using Acrobat (not the free Reader), you won't be able to save it. Did you create the form? If so, and you were using Acrobat (say, on a different machine than you use in the field), you can enable it so Reader can save it. Alternately, you can install the full version of Acrobat on whatever computer you are using while you do your inspections.

This will not help. Contact the creator of the form.

May be that the form will be reset when you open the document.

  1. Where did you get the form from? Did you create it, buy it, find it?
  2. What version of the free Reader do you have? The newer versions can save, even if not enabled by the creator.

  3. In File > Properties > Security, what does it say?
  4. Are you doing Save or Save As to save it?

" i feel like it is not even opening as adobe - it opens as a web page when i save it..."

Let's have a good look at what you mean by that. If you don't open it in Acrobat Reader all bets are off. Please make sure you do that.
