No Reader Available in a Free Version?

I am disabled because of a stroke and cannot find any way to use Adobe Reader that lets me listen to anything without having to pay money that I don't have. I thought that Adobe Reader had a free version that allowed me to listen to PDF without having to pay out something? If I am mistaken, please assist me in this. I make less than $900.00 a month on Social Security and no way to pay. Anyone have another way perhaps, to listen to PDF files?

Here is what you should be seeing. Underlined in blue is the box that needs to be checked. Alternately, you can uncheck the box to the left but that just fixes it temporarily and you do want it checked in the end.

Just to be clear, you downloaded the installer, clicked on that to install and THAT is when your other software tried to open? If so, the installer is packaged in a .zip file (compressed so it downloads easier) that needs to be extracted. For some reason your file associations think that .zip should be opened by the bible software. That needs to be reset but I'm not exactly sure how to do that short of some work in the registry which I am not comfortable recommending.

Try right-clicking the .zip file (it should be named AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2015.zip) and see if there is an option to "Extract all". I'm not positive that will be there with your associations messed up but take a look. If it's there, choose it, tell it where you want it to put the files (I suggest your downloads folder) then go there and double-click the file that says AdobeAcroCleaner_DC2015.exe.

If that option isn't there, I would suggest having someone that does computer work local to you take a look.

It did not try to open. It opened Three times I did this. Scratchin' my head!!???

The Adobe Acrobat Reader is free and you can get it here: Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Install for all versions

As far as listening to a pdf, yes, it can do that. The function is called Read Out Loud. The only hitch to it is if the pdf does not contain any readable text (like it was a scan that was made into a pdf). If that's the case, Adobe has no free tools to make it readable like you want.

Exactly how can I find out if it can be read aloud by the Reader? How do I

see if it's a readable text? There is no way the Reader displays any kind

of instructions that shows how to start any audio. It only shows where I

have to purchase the audio version and I must say this; I am slightly slow

in my ability to 'think' clearly as the stroke I had affected my mental

ability. Just to inform you of that. There is no way I can figure out how

to start any audio playing of any PDF. Example: I downloaded a PDF book

called The Post Tribulation Rapture by William Arnold the III. Nothing

happens when I tried to start the Reader.

Ok. Lets get this figured out.

First, try this.

In Reader go to Edit>Preferences>Security (enhanced)>Sandbox container and check the box that says "Run in AppContainer(beta)." then restart Reader.

Then open Reader, use File open to open the pdf book. Go to View>Read Out Loud>Activate Read Out Loud then View>Read Out Loud>Read to End of Document.

Let me know what happens.
