Old Editable PDF Document

New Here ,
Aug 01, 2019 Aug 01, 2019

I have a very large (99 pages) and very old editable PDF document that was edited and saved with Adobe Acrobat Reader XI.  Today I needed to review the document and opened it with Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.  To my panic every editable field was blank!!!  I attempted to locate Adobe Acrobat Reader XI on Adobe's website to no avail.  I searched the Adobe Acrobat Reader DC help to see if there was a program that could be used to reformat my XI document into the DC format -- again no joy.

HELP!!!

Are you sure you're using Reader and not some other application?

When you say the form was blank do you mean that fields are there but have no values? Or the fields themselves are gone? Or something else?

There's no need (or way) to convert PDF forms from XI to DC. They are exactly the same in both applications and should work correctly (assuming they were created correctly) in both versions.

Hi TMobberley,

I am sorry to hear about the trouble caused.

Adding on to try67

We need some more information for a better understanding:

  • Is it a PDF form with form fields or is it a simple PDF file with text and images?
  • Is this a behavior with a particular PDF file or with any PDF file you try to open?
  • What is the version of the Adobe Reader installed on your machine? To check the version of the application you may refer to the link - Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC
  • What is the OS/version?
  • Could you please share the screenshots of the PDF file where you see blank fields?
  • Could you please share a sample of the file through private message for testing? To know more about how to send a private message you may please refer to the link - How Do I Send  Private Message | Adobe Community

Waiting for your reply

Regards,

Amal

I am using Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Version 2019.012.20035.

Windows 7 with all Microsoft updates (including all optional updates) applied.

The document (PDF file) has editable fields -- I assume that is what you mean by "a PDF form with form fields."

When using XI I recall the editable fields being highlighted in blue.

When using DC the editable field's focus is apparent only when the mouse is in the field and appears as an outline..

There are hundreds of fields that are filled in in the XI document; however, when opened with DC those fields are blank irrespective of focus.

Owing to a nondisclosure agreement and the extreme sensitivity of the information in the document a screen shot and sample file cannot be provided.

Thank you for your assistance.

Regards,

Tivis

I am having a similar issue. We have Adobe Acrobat DC and one person can view the PDF with data intact. Everyone else cannot. I have tried on several machines. The only difference is that the version that has no issues is running 2019.012.20040 the others are all running 2019.021.20061. How can a few hotfixes cause this difference? It also has nothing to do with the edition. The one that can read the data is running full acrobat. one of the ones who cannot is also running full acrobat. The others are using reader. This is a customer facing form and has signuture lines which contain the signiture on any version BUT the form data is all blank!
