When I am searching a library online and click on a document the Reader that opens is very basic there is no tool bar just a few features. I want to search these documents while online. If I download the document then I can search it just fine with the Acrobat reader as this has the tool bar. I am using Windows 10 with Google Chrome. I used to be able to search documents while online in the older version of Acrobat. What am I doing wrong? Why is the Acrobat reader so different online from the one I read documents when offline?
1 Correct answer
It is not online, usually, but part of Chrome. It is a separate beast, not connected to Acrobat Reader, and its features might come and go at the whim of Google. Nevertheless, I can search PDFs in Chrome by using Ctrl+F.
It it is just possible that the library converts PDF files to something else for display, in which case what you get is at the whim of the library.

Thanks for the clarification. I was really getting confused as I did not know this reader for PDF was part of Google Chrome. I tried your suggestion and it works but does not highlight the word in the document so I am still spending allot of time trying to find what I am looking for. But this is a step in the right direction.
What about using a different search engine? Is Acrobate reader designed to open documents while online so I can use its full functions?
Thanks again for the help.

If you use Internet Explorer you may find it uses Acrobat Reader. Things keep changing, this used to be easier!
