When opening multiple PDF files, Acrobat Reader DC groups them in the same window as tabs. How can I change so that each PDF file opens in a new window?
Dear User,
We are delighted to inform you that we have extended support for opening multiple PDF files in separate windows (SDI - Single Document Interface Mode) in the latest updates of Acrobat.
To use this preference, simply go to Preferences > General > Open documents as new tabs in the same window and disable this. Relaunch Acrobat and open the documents, they will open in individual window instances (reference image attached for navigation to the preference)
We look forward to receivi

I found one that someone already requested this feature - https://acrobat.uservoice.com/forums/590923-acrobat-for-windows-and-mac/suggestions/46894150-request...

Hey all! Not sure if anyone else discovered this. Just like in web browsers, if you click and drag and drop the tab to another screen or out of the tab bar, it will open the document in another window instead.

Thank you for sharing your findings with us. We appreciate that!
You can drag and drop the tab to open it in a separate window. However, the option to have been removed from Acrobat's modern viewer.
Here are the details of what has been improvised in the modern viewer- https://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/using/new-acrobat-experience.html

Hi All,
We appreciate your valuable feedback! We're always looking for ways to improve Acrobat, and we appreciate the time and effort you have taken to share your feedback.
We acknowledge that the new Acrobat represents a notable change; however, we hope that as you get familiar with the new interface, you will be able to be more productive & get more out of Acrobat.
We are actively working on all the currently unavailable features, such as 'open cross-document links in the same window' or 'open PDFs in new window' and customizing these preferences. We will address them with the highest priority.
As you get more comfortable with the new interface, please contact us with specific questions on tools, features, or functionalities. We're happy to provide helpful resources and answers to your questions.
If your critical workflows are impacted, you can switch to the old UI from the "Menu" on the top left corner of Windows OS and View Menu on MacOS. We will follow up with a detailed community-featured post, guiding you to familiarise yourself with the new interface and regular updates on upcoming changes.
Thanks,
Anand Sri.

Have you lost your mind? Do you even use Acrobat? You cannot even begin to imagine the problem this has caused! Let me put this into perspective for you...if you do not put the seperate page functionality back into the options, someone else will come up with an "acrobat reader" that will allow it, that's how important this funtionality is to the real world! Seems to me that it would only be a matter of sending out an update to restore this. Are you listening to your customers? Apparently you are not. Your message above was on Sept. 7. It's now 11/1 and this is still a problem. Shameful!

Just want to emphasize that you need to restore "open PDFs in new window." Not having it is really a productivity killer. Don't understand why it was dropped in the first place.

Here's some feedback....NO ONE likes having all their files open in one document....NO ONE! And yet, Adobe is saying too bad...get used to it! Great motto! 🙄

This reads like: "We value your feedback. Haha psych. Acually we think the way you use Acrobat is stupid"

I am perfectly "comfortable" with the new interface, but removing the functionality of allowing me to open pdfs in separate windows was a terrible idea. I teach over Zoom, and I need to be able to open PDFs in separate windows in order to navigate smoothly during lessons. Your "improvement" has made the program considerably less functional in this regard. Please make this a REAL priority, not a PR one.

Hello,
Same as Jo323380749v4n, I lost a lot with this replaced functionality. Constantly comparing accounting documents, now I need to manually create the new window... Can you please reactivate this functionality?
Thanks and regards

The new version of Acrobat PRO has a dreadful UX, it's archaic and has gone back in time. Simply awful. I screenshot files and go into keynote to comment as there are too many glitches now. I also like many other users cannot choose the option for the PDF not to open within the same window. Needless to say, that it's gone backward again on this option. This is not an improvement nor an upgrade. Can the developers look into it as it's regressed from the previous version? The typeface layout is also worse than previous versions.

The new version is horrible -- you can't open new documents in separate windows and you have to hide those annoting toolbars and menus every time.

Adobe Acrobat 2023 ("New Acrobat") needs the option to open each document in a new window.
This should be possible without disabling New Acrobat.

This is not possible in the "new UI" apparently. Why some manager at Adobe, perhaps that morning seething because the charred coffee pot had only cold remnants from yesterday's brew, would walk into a UI session and say, "from now on, we are denying users the ability to open documents in new windows," is beyond me. Please do two things: (1) restore the ability to uncheck "open new documents as tabs in the current window", and (2) someone please get that manager a nice, fresh latte from the Starbucks in the lobby. They must have been underpaid and overworked to carry that level of user hate with them into design meetings.
