PDF file opens automatically after download

Dear helpers,

After downloading a PDF file from a browser or email, it immediately opens in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. How do I prevent this behavior, in order to open it when I want? My desktop runs Windows 10.

Many thanks in advance.

It isn't Acrobat Reader which decides to do this: if it is asked to open a file, it does so. It has no hand in the downloading.

So you need to change your settings in your browser or email app, as appropriate: the app which actually downloads, then runs Acrobat Reader.
