PDFs not viewable on first opening

I am getting a blank page when I open pdf files in Acrobat Reader DC for the first time (please see screen shot below). If I then close the file and reopen it, the problem is "fixed" (contents of the file can be viewed), and it functions normally on subsequent openings. This problem started just today and it affects all pdf files, regardless of the software used to create them. I assume that the problem lies with Acrobat Reader DC, but I have uninstalled and reinstalled the program, and the problem persists.  It's an annoying and time-consuming bug. Any suggestions would be most appreciated. Thanks.
