Problem adding Dropbox account at Reader DC on Windows 7

Community Beginner ,
Jun 28, 2017 Jun 28, 2017

Hi there,

as title. I've encountered the problem on 2 Windows 7 machines with slightly different behavior described below.

  1. click Add storage > click button Add below Dropbox icon > another window pops up with Dropbox sign-in form > input account and password but submit button still disabled. Another weird behavior about the form is that, the placeholder of input boxes (account/password) not going away as text already entered into the boxes.
  2. click Add storage > click button Add below Dropbox icon > another window pops up with message "no internet connection". I'm pretty sure connection works because can browse webpage on Chrome, can check updates for reader within the program. I disabled the Windows firewall and try again, but no luck.

any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Po-sung

Hi Shivam,

By accident I solve the problem by taking steps below.

  1. Open Reader DC
  2. Go to Preferences
  3. Go to Internet
  4. Go to Internet Properties by clicking Internet Settings
  5. Click Setup. Seeing message "You are already connected to the Internet"
  6. Click Cancel to leave Setup
  7. Click OK to leave Internet Properties
  8. Click OK to leave Preferences

Then I am able to add Dropbox account.

Looks like Reader DC has bug on detecting Internet connection, and it has to be notified manually.

Thank you for supporting all the way

Hi Po-Sung,

As per the description mentioned above, you are unable to add Dropbox account in Acrobat Reader, is that correct?

Assuming you haven't already, could you try rebooting the machine, launch Reader and try adding dropbox account again.

Also, if you have a Google account, try signing in with a Google account and see if that works.

If that doesn't work, try repairing Reader by clicking "Repair Installation" under Help menu, reboot machine and try again.

Are you able to add other storage option available there like Box, One Drive?

Awaiting your response.

Shivam

Hi Shivam,

Thank you for the reply. But none of them works.

About the signing in with Google account, the button is disabled in the case 1. Needless to say I can't even reach the sign-in page in the case 2.

I'm unable to add neither Box nor One Drive. Both of them show me the message "No Internet Connection."

Btw, before the question posted, I tried installing different language versions (zh-tw, en, currently zh-tw) and now I'm here.

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing the information.

Try following the steps suggested in the link below:

Resolve connection errors with Adobe Creative Cloud and Creative Suite applications

If that doesn't work, run Cleaner tool which you can download from here: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs

Reboot the machine.

Download and install Reader DC from here: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution and try again.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi Shivam,

Thank you for the reply.

As for the results, in general, connection is good. Clean and install Reader DC doesn't work, still unable to add Dropbox. A window with message "No Internet Connection." pops up as click Add button.

Here are screenshots of connection checking steps and Reader DC downloading page. Hope these can help.

Cheers!

Thanks for sharing the details,

Could you try adding Dropbox account in Acrobat Reader mobile app and see if that works?

You can download Acrobat Reader for Android device from here: Adobe Acrobat Reader - Android Apps on Google Play

For iOS: Adobe Acrobat Reader: View, Create, & Convert PDFs on the App Store

Hi,

any update? For now we can tell that

  1. My Windows 7 internet connection is good
  2. My Dropbox account is good (by adding on Android app)
  3. Repair / reinstall Reader DC doesn't work

perhaps something wrong with Reader DC on Windows 7?

Cheers!

Hi Po-sung,

Try running Reader as an administrator and adding Dropbox account in Reader, does that work?

You may refer to the following link on how to launch an app as an admin:

Run an Adobe program as administrator | Windows 7, Vista

Let us know how it goes.
