"Windows - Application Error" in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC

Community Beginner ,
Apr 26, 2017 Apr 26, 2017

After pushing out the update to version 2015.006.30306 multiple users are getting a "Windows - Application Error" in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC. The error description is:

"The exception unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location 0x002858e3. Click OK to terminate the program".

Does anyone have a solution for this? Currently reinstalling corrects the issue, but this appears to be a temporary fix.

Hi jsrco,

Could you please try troubleshooting steps suggested in the link below?

unknown software exception (0xc0000409) occurred in the application at location 0x0041240b

when i open a pdf i get the following error message -

Also, try rebooting your computer and see if that helps.

Please note: Disabling Protected Mode is for troubleshooting purpose only. Please turn the feature back on after troubleshooting is complete.

Does the message appear when the application is launched or when any pdf is opened in Reader?

Which Operating System is installed on the machine?

Keep us posted with the results.

Thanks,

Hi jsrco,

Thanks for the info.

Please try to navigate to the install directory: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Acrobat Reader DC\Reader and then run the AcroRd32.exe, does that work?

Have you tried troubleshooting steps mentioned in the link above?

Awaiting your response.

Sorry for the delay.
Trying to run AcroRd32.exe gets the following error the first time it is ran. Past that, it opens correctly.:
"The exception unknown software exception (0x0000409) occurred in the application at location 0x013958e3."

Unfortunately this is intermittent. We are unable to verify if the troubleshooting steps correct the issue.  We are unable to leave troubleshooting mode off for security and compliance reasons.

Hi jsrco,

Sorry for taking so long to respond.

Could you please try repairing Reader installation by launching Reader>click Help>select Repair Installation, reboot the machine, and see if that works?
