Question

Reader 8 will not allow me to accept or decline license

I've downloaded Reader 8.0 four time in the last day from Adobe.com onto this laptop (Windows XP on a Gateway Pentium 4 notebook, 504 MB RAM) and run into the same problem every time. I get to the point where I must accept or decline the license agreement, and neither button works. The only thing I can do is close the window, so I no longer have a working copy of Reader on this machine.

I tried downloading 8.0 on a desktop machine on the same home network, and it loaded just fine. I turned off the Avast! antivirus program, I cleared the temp directory, I emptied the trash - what should I do next?

    This works Windows 7 for this problem.

    Nothing else did.

    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\AdobeViewer]

    "EULA"=dword:00000001

    "Launched"=dword:00000001

    "Registered"=dword:00000001

    stuck it on the reg script but note the differences.

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\8.0\AdobeViewer] "EULA"=dword:00000001 "Launched"=dword:00000001 "Registered"=dword:00000002 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Viewer\8.0\AdobeViewer] "EULA"=dword:00000001 "Launched"=dword:00000001 "Registered"=dword:00000002 [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\AdobeViewer] "EULA"=dword:00000001 "Launched"=dword:00000001 "Registered"=dword:00000001 [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\AdobeViewer] "EULA"=dword:00000001 "Launched"=dword:00000001 "Registered"=dword:00000001

    try these solutions:

    Make sure Internet Explorer has been updated to the latest build. Go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/default.mspx and download the latest version of Internet Explorer 7. If it has, then do one or more of the following solutions:

    Solution 1: Disable the Content Advisor in Internet Explorer 7

    1. In Internet Explorer choose the Tools menu > Internet Options > Content tab > and disable Content Advisor

    2. Restart Internet Explorer and try to open the PDF

    Solution 2: [Set the registration in the Windows Registry by hand.]

    1. [Click start > run > and type in regedit.exe click okay] (On Windows Vista, simply type regedit into the Start Search field in the Start menu and hit enter)

    2. [Add the following entries into the registry:]

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Adobe Acrobat\8.0\AdobeViewer] (If the AdobeViewer key does not exist, right-click on 8.0 and create new key called AdobeViewer)

    "EULA"=dword:00000001

    "Launched"=dword:00000001

    "Registered"=dword:00000002

    Solution 3: Set the EULA_ACCEPT property from the command line during installation.

    1. Click Start > run and type in cmd then click okay (On Windows Vista use Start > All Programs > Accessories and then right-click on Command Prompt and choose Run as Administrator)

    2. Change directory to the installation source (example: CD, network or hard drive location)

    1. Type the following command:

    msiexec /i acropro.msi ISX_SERIALNUMBER=1118-1419-2250-4202-5399-2872 USERNAME="Mr. User" COMPANYNAME="Adobe Systems" EULA_ACCEPT=YES

    note: Serial number presented above is fake and used for demonstration purposes only. You must provide your own serial number.

    I should clarify, I have Adobe 8 and I too cannot get to accept or decline, but Liam's link no longer works. And it's not the browsers problem b/c I can't open it at all by goint to Start either.

    Help,

    I cannot get Adobe Acrobat Standard Version 9 to accept the
    license agreement. I have implemented Liam's patch for the similar problem to 8 but it does not work.

    Help please.

    Terry,

    Have you tried run the fix posted here Liam, "Reader 8 will not allow me to accept or decline license" #121, 30 Jan 2008 1:28 am

    It should bypass the EULA and hopefully allow you to use adobe. Instructions are in the post linked above.

    My problem...I have downloaded reader 8.0, 8,1, and 8.1.2 at different times over the past few months. Each time I download, I uninstall the previous version on my Gateway desktop. I am using Netscape Navigator 9 as my browser. I cannot accept the license agreement when trying to open Reader from the desktop nor from a web link. Further confounding the problem is that Reader works fine on the same computer under my wife's user name! We are both set up as system administrators on this computer. Help! This is a real pain for me!

    The solution posted previously should help in your case as well. What it does is bypass the EULA so Reader/Acrobat thinks you have accepted it and doesn't ask you to again.

    As far as the page being blank, are you connected to the internet on the PC you are trying to install reader on? and are any proxy's you might use configured? I'm guessing its the same computer you are on to post on these forums so you can get to the Adobe site okay.
