Reader DC Doesn't Seem to Work with Windows 10 updates

Hi,

Hope someone can help me before I pull my hair out 😉 - Thanks in advance to anyone who is reading.

I installed Windows DC a while back, but then after a windows automatic update a couple of months ago, DC just didn't work, wouldn't open any files. No error message, just wouldn't do anything. When I went to repair the prog it told me files not found, it's as if the installation is corrupt.

So no worries, re-installed, worked fine again. Next day, started machine, exact same issue. Re-installed again, OK for 2 or 3 days, then exactly the same issue. Re-installed again, OK again for a couple of days, and then same issue again. This just keeps happening, exact same thing. I can only think that it's something to do with windows automatic updates, otherwise I can't understand why it would be OK for a bit and then stop working.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

And the repair message doesn't name any file?

Do the messages you get give the name of a missing file? Or any other details?

There is no message, it just stops working, nothing happens when I try to open the program or try to open a pdf with reader, and then when I go to the program and try to repair, it tells me files are corrupt or missing, and I have to uninstall and re-install.

    Thanks

So no one can help with this issue? Acrobat no longer works with windows 10 machines then I assume?

    Hi,

Could you please try removing Reader DC using Cleaner tool: Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs , reboot the machine, and reinstall Reader DC from here: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

    Thanks,

    Shivam

    Yes, thank you :-)

I've tried this, so far so good. Getting it installed hasn't been the problem though, it's keeping it working that has been the issue - so I'll see how it goes over the next few days.

    Thanks again

So I went back to XL, and after a few days the exact same thing happened.....

Also, a new windows 10 PC was installed in the office for a colleague a week or so ago, this machine has just done the exact same as mine did, I don't get it... I've turned off the automatic adobe updates, will see if this helps. (Edit - it didn't make a difference).

    Thanks

    Hi,

Try launching Reader as an administrator and see if that helps:

1- Close Adobe Reader, locate Reader's shortcut>right-click>Properties>click Compatibility tab.

2- Check the box "Run this program as an administrator".

    3- Click Apply>OK, relaunch Reader.

If that doesn't work, try changing Compatibility setting by selecting the box "Run this program in compatibility mode for", select Windows 7 from the drop-down list, click Apply>OK, relaunch Reader.

Keep us posted with the results.

    Hi,

Thank you - yes I did try this, it didn't work, the only thing that ever seems to work (temporarily) is uninstalling and re-installing. It actually looks like some of the files are corrupt or missing, as when I try to repair I get the error about missing files and being unable to repair.

So far I've just come to the conclusion that reader DC has a problem, so I've gone back to XL, and that's OK so far

    Thanks
