Reader Hangs after first action and uses high CPU until end tasked.

Hi - Running Adobe Reader Version 11.0.0

I upgraded the Win 7 on PC from Home Prem to Win 7 Pro and my Adobe Reader hangs and uses CPU anything I do past opening the first screen or first action EVERY TIME. If I hit print, the print screen comes up and it's hung there. If I go to Edit/Preferences, that screen comes up, but I am hung there - can't hit "general" to try adjusting settings others have mentioned. I have tried most or all of the Reg settings that helped folks, but none helped me, regarding the welcome messages. Got the welcome message turned of - didn't help. Made changes at HKLM and HKCU levels, but I am still having the issue. Also - for only opening one document, I always have two AcroRd32.exe in my task manager, although ending one usually ends them both.  Sometimes I also have AdobeRAM.exe running.

Please advise.  Thank you.

Hi there.. 21 hours ago I replied that I put on the latest version of the reader and it hangs right away - not responding and all grayed out.  Do you have an  "Adobe Reader Removal" script or something so I can clean up and start over?

(If so I'd like to go back to the XI version after - if possible.)

Thank you.

Hi thomaso136,

Please try the troubleshooting steps provided here: Troubleshoot Windows system errors, freezes | Adobe software

If that does not work, try to run the cleaner tool Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs and restart your system.

Then re-install application from here: Adobe - Adobe Acrobat Reader DC Distribution

Let us know if it helps.

Regards,

Meenakshi

Sigh.. I did all the clean up - the full reinstall - and I can tell it cleaned my registry as the welcome messages are back etc - but it's just like it was. I can click help/about, but then I clicked Edit/Preferences and it comes up on Page Display and I try to click General - right above that - and it hangs... This is crazy... but I'll keep trying whatever you tell me.. Thank you..

Anybody else have any thoughts for me?  It's going to be hard to do my taxes!  Please advise.. This has to be something simple.. but it happened when I upgraded (in place) my PC from Win7 Home Prem to Win 7 PRO and added more memory.

Thank you.

Hi thomaso136,

Sorry for the delay in response.

Please let us know if you are still experiencing the issue.

Did you try to update the application to the latest patch released on April 11?

If not, please try to update the application and if the application still hangs.

If the issue still persists, could you please share your system specification.

Also, let us know the troubleshooting steps you have done till now.

Regards,

Meenakshi

Hi there.  I AM still experiencing this issue.  Not sure what patch was put out on April 11, but I uninstalled, ran the "clean up" exe again and then re-installed the Acrobat Reader DC.  when I open the reader, from the shortcut or right from the shortcut, I get TWO AcroRd32.exe in my task manager.  I can't do anything in the Adobe Reader that opens - not help about or anything.  At least now, I can actually close the Adobe Reader without having to end task it - but that still leaves one AcroRd32.exe in my task manager. The exe uses up 25% of my CPU..

I really would love a fix for this.  In order to do my taxes I had to get another reader..

Any advice would be most appreciated.

Sorry - my system is a Dell XPS 8300, was running Windows 7 Home Premium but I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro in order to put more memory in my PC.. That's when this happened.. it had to be something in the update to Win 7 Pro that messed up Adobe. I may have had Acrobat on my PC - now I can't remember, but I had 2 licenses for it..

So far pretty much I have uninstalled and run your "clean up" tool, deleted the Adobe folders, reinstalled.. I also tried installing the XI version - but all had the same problem.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi Kind Sir.. I did as you asked - Now I have the ugly Adobe Reader DC on my PC and it freezes faster than the Version 11 did.  I can't do a help/about.  I can bring it up and scroll it a tad and it freezes.  Please advise.

Thank you.

Hi guys,

I have the same issue with acroRd32.exe on my win7 workstations. I have reinstalled the reader, updated too last version, tested the cleaning tool but nothing helps. After some time the CPU runs on 100% and I must kill the process via TaskManager and thats no solution.

Any updates regarding this issue?
