Reading position

Well, I have got a page interface in French, but the articles I saw in the forum were in English. I presume it is best I post in English ?

Hello everybody, I read a book of about 500 pages and 20 chapters, and some periods of time happen during which I have to interrupt my reading. After that, I do not remember where I was in the book. Is the solution to note down the page number on a sheet of paper ? But, grasp, shall I remember where I put that paper ?

You can post in French if you'd like. There's a Translate command here that works pretty well, for the most part, and there are several French-speaking experts here as well.

There are two solutions to this issue (beside writing it down on a piece of paper...):

- Use one of the commenting tools to make a comment on the page you arrived to. Then when you open the file the next time open the Comment panel and click the item in the Comments List to jump to that page.

- Go to Edit (or the Acrobat Reader menu if you're on a Mac) - Preferences - Documents and tick the "Restore last view settings when reopening documents" box. This will cause the application to remember what was the last page you viewed when you closed the file and open it to that location the next time you view it.

Hello,

Well, the comments are an idea that can be interesting, I shall try and find time to have a look.

The last view settings was the answer I was looking for.

While I asked the question I checked that, and thought it was managing the position and size of the window. So when reading the answer I just had to close the document and reopen it, to see that the problem was solved, thank you.

Do you have an idea of how ot increase the font size in that dialog box ?

Twenty years ago I should have read that with no problem, but now I need the lens. And there is another example of this : the current page number is displayed, but about ten times too little.

Anyway this is a recurrent problem in Windows 10, the solutions are not focused where we need them. So when applications take care of this, it is precious.

Check the Accessibility options of Windows. You should be able to increase the system font size used in dialogs.

Reader also has some Accessibility options (under Preferences - Accessibility), with some nice features... Give it a try!

Oh, I am hesitant about how to quote.

Yes, I increased the default system font, and was sorry that does not apply to the tooltips of the taskbar.

I shall have a look at the accessibility options of Acrobat Reader, when I success accessing them 🙂I have got a good lens that can help.

Thank you anyway.

Did you know that Windows has a built-in Magnifier app? Open the Start menu and type "magnifier" (it might be called something else in French, possibly "Loupe") and you should see it. Open it and it will allow you to increase the "zoom level" of everything on the screen.

See: https://support.microsoft.com/fr-fr/help/11542/windows-use-magnifier-to-make-things-easier-to-see

Yes, I practice intensive use of the Windows magnifier. I have got a shortcut for it in my taskbar, and I can open it with the (Windows +) keys -I could close it with Windows Esc, but now this opens Edge.

It now takes about 15 seconds to open, and sometimes, there is no real place to put it, and its main limitation is that it cannot display the tooltips of the taskbar (except an edge of them).

Microsoft has some more extended products for accessibility I heard, perhaps the time approaches when I have to afford them some time.

Hello,

Here I am again, with a new machine.

I am first going to post out of topic, that will be done.

For font sizes in title bars, menus, message boxes, I downloaded System Font Size Changer, from wintools.info

I sometimes have to repeat those instructions, but it is already such a progress. I shall ask them about points not yet treated, as the taskbar.

*

Well, about checking the first checkbox at top of the documents tab in Edit Preferences, to load the same displayed parameters when loading a document again, that worked pretty nice on the machine I had when you answered me.

But now I have got a new machine, still on Windows 10, and on this, this checkbox is ignored.

Any idea what is going on ?

I have an administrator profile, although I open the documents without privilege elevation.

Perhaps it would be better translated to say "display last displayed parameters".

Can I edit my message ? Perhaps that is in the "... Plus" menu ? But that displays me only a little white rectangle, with very tiny height.

I think I get a clue.

I coloured a word, saved the document, suppressed the colour, saved again, saved one time more, and then the position was saved when I closed the document.

I have got to try with the document I read last year.
