Reading progress sync across multiple platforms

Does anybody know how to set this thing up so that the reading progress gets shared across multiple platforms? In my particular case, I want to share the reading experience between an iPad and a MacBook Pro. Is there anything that can be done to make this work or should I keep looking for a BETTER solution?
