Hello Warrens,

With the subscription of Adobe ExportPDF service, you can converts most of the PDF files available today, including PDF files containing scanned documents. There are a few types of PDF files that cannot be converted, however. These types include the following:

  • PDF files that require a password to open the document
  • PDF files that have permissions applied to prevent printing, copying, or altering of the content
  • PDF Portfolios
  • PDF files generated from Adobe Illustrator.

You need to know which type of protection was applied to the PDF.With  the PDF opened using Reader or Acrobat. open the PDF properties pop-up window, use the the key combination of "<Ctrl> +  D". Then click on the "Security" tab to see which security method was applied to the PDF. You can then determine how best to remove the security, More than likely you will need to contact the creator or distributor of the PDF to obtain the information needed to remove the protection of request  an unprotected file.

If you are the owner of the PDF file and have added the security settings that is added the password, you need to subscribe to Acrobat Pro DC license/subscription to remove the password and then you may export the PDF file to Word.
