Repeatable Search Function

Guest

New to the community and have very limited experience with Adobe outside of basic functions. I don't have any Pro or enhanced versions at this moment. I've done some web searching, but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for yet. Any help would be appreciated.

I have a database of individual pdf's (grouped into a File Explorer folder) that contain only alpha-numerical data that essentially represent an Item Number, Item Name and Cost. PDF files are regularly added to this folder, so it's continually growing. In the basic Reader I have, I can search this folder of multiple files by Item Number and Reader will bring up all the files that contain that Item Number, which is great. What I want to be able to do though is "save" that search criteria (Item Number) to build a list of previous searches. This would allow me to repeatably perform a search by just clicking on an item in that list, rather than having to look up an Item Number/Name that I want to search in another source of mine and typing that in each time.

Are there any upgraded versions or functions of Adobe that would allow such activity?

Hopefully that makes sense. Again thanks for any feedback.

Hi there,

Thank you for reaching out. As described above, you want to save the search results and build a list of previous searches to use them in future.

You can save the search results as a PDF or CSV file. For detailed information please refer to save search results  in the help article https://helpx.adobe.com/in/acrobat/using/searching-pdfs.html#review_and_save_pdf_search_results

Let us know how it goes

Regards

Amal

Thank you for the response, Amal.

Because my data (collection of pdf's) will continually be added to, I don't necessarily want to save the "results" of the search, I just want to save the title of the search for further use (because that search will be repeated regularly).

Say I want to search a folder of multiple pdf's today for "01234-789 Description ABC". I would get all the results for that search for the current files and be able to analyze the results. Next month I want to again perform that search for "01234-789 Description ABC" because there'll be more files to search, retrieve and analyze data from. I want to build a pick list (or Index, Catalog, etc) to choose from to perform a particular, repeatable search.

Example: Have the ability to click on any of the list below and perform a search at any time on the current data.

01234-789 Description ABC

01456-325 Description XYZ

02562-001 Description JKL

Hope that helps.

Thanks.

JC

A script can be used to automate the search command within the active document, a folder, an Index or active Indexes.

So a more complex script could create a menu of various pre-defined search terms and launch the Advanced Search window with the desired text when any of the items in the menu are clicked.
