Separating Pages

I have an Adobe Reader document that is 84 pages but I want to separate/split it into 2 different files.  I want Pgs. 1-42 to be one and 43-84 to be another.  I have found any instructions or steps to help me resolve this issue.  How do I split this document in half?

You can extract pages with Adobe Acrobat, not Adobe Reader.

It wants to charge me money to get the option to extract pages in Adobe Acrobat Reader DC.  Is there any way to do this for free in Adobe?  I remember doing this without this kind of hassle a few years ago but forgot how.

No. For your money you will get a subscription of Adobe Acrobat. Adobe Acrobat can extract pages. Adobe doesn't offer a free program for this.

Then you no doubt had Adobe Acrobat or some other third party pdf editing tool.
