still can't open a PDF after updating to newest version and restarting

I still can't open a PDF after updating to newest version of Adobe Acrobat Reader DC, restarting and obtaining a digital signature.

I get the following error message:

To view the full contents of this document, you need a later version of the PDF viewer. You can upgrade to the latest version of Adobe Reader from www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html For further support, go to www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html

I am using OS X El Capitan 10.11.6

Thanks

Brandon

Don't open the file in a browser or Apple Preview. Open the file in Acrobat Reader.

Well, you can't open it in a browser. Complain to the browser makers that they don't support your file, if you like. Use Acrobat Reader. (Internet Explorer, not Edge, might work because it still uses Acrobat Reader, for now).
