Unable to open PDF in adobe acrobat reader with adobe pro installed

I have adobe acrobat Pro installed. I need to simulate what a user would be able to do with Adobe Acrobat reader (free) on a PC. When I download adobe acrobat (reader[xxx]_install.exe), I get a message saying old/newer version installed. On my PC the PDF only open in Adobe Acrobat Pro, I don't have an option for Adobe Acrobat reader. 

2nd question, can you edit a PDF in adobe acrobat? Thanks.
