We are migrating users from one domain to another in our Active Directory and some of them are having issues with printing PDFs from Adobe Reader after their accounts are moved.
The PDF documents printed from Adobe Reader just won't go to the spooler. All other applications print fine, PDFs can be printed from other readers and within web browsers (Chrome & Firefox) but when the user clicks PRINT in Adobe, nothing happens. The system Print window with all the options opens as usual but after that, the job simply won't register in the network printer. The same documents print fine for other users on those PCs which make me think it's some kind of permissions issue with Adobe Reader software.
So far we tried:
- Disabling Protected Mode (in Preferences > Security Enhanced)
- Reinstalling Adobe Reader (with version DC, 10, and 11)
- Reinstalling network printer on users' PCs,
- "Print as image" option in Adobe Reader.
- Adding domain user to local administrators group and running Adobe Reader with elevated permissions
And the obvious rebooting after each step. None of the above make any difference and there are no errors in the Windows Event Viewer.
The only solution is to remove domain users' profile and let them log in again to create a new one, which is a major inconvenience due to some applications that require configuration after this.
Any help appreciated.

Same problem here, have you managed to find a solution?

We are having the same issue. Another user can log on and print but this user cannot. Deleting the profile did not work in her case. Still testing.

Hello Kamilb,
Sorry for the delayed response and inconvenience caused. With the description above, it seems to be a user profile issue. For testing purpose, please create a test user profile with full admin rights and then try printing from a local printer.
Also, in the current user profile in which you are facing the issue, try removing the Printer drivers from the Printer Utility software. Then from the Print Management, do a manual cleanup for the printer drivers.
Reinstall the printer on local machine and check.
What is the current dot version of Adobe Reader installed? To identify refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC
The version of the Operating system installed? What is the version of security software installed(if any)?
Make and Model of the Printer and the firmware version?
let us know how it goes and share your observation.
Thanks,
Anand Sri.

Hi Anand and thanks for the reply.
The issue appears in Adobe Reader DC and version 11. We have tried reinstalling all printers, it won't print even when we add a new network printer one that was never installed on the affected desktop before so I ruled it out. All other users can print from Adobe Reader application absolutely fine so there must be something specific in the migrated user's profile.
As we're moving only a couple of dozen AD accounts and not all of those users have Windows 10 desktops (the issue doesn't appear in Windows 7) I decided it would be easier just to delete the local domain user profile folders and configure them again once they log in instead of spending more time to investigate it.

Can I ask if you tried a printer mapped through a printer server in the new domain? That is the recommendation given to us.. I haven't configured a new print server yet as I don't want to proceed if it doesn't fix the issue. Thanks.

I experienced a very similar issue. Users were migrated with SidHistory and we had problems with windows 8.1 and Windows 10, not with Windows 7. In most cases it was sufficient to remove and reinstall the printer, then we could print pdfs but "Devices and printers " was messed up with duplicated printers and previously deleted printers too.
Here is a procedure strictly related to what we did to solve the problem.
Log in with each user will operate on the computer and delete all his printers, the immediately disconnect (we noticed they are automatically recreated after a while). Login with admin credential and remove the entire registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Print\Providers\Client Side Rendering Print Provider.
After that restart the pc, log in with admin credential and reinstall all the printers you need, then do the same for the regular users.
That registry key has sub-keys for every computer user listing all its printers and sub-keys for every print server. After domain migrations the data related to the previous domain users seem to 'confuse' the OS.
Hope it helps.
