Unable to save PDF files

When I try to save PDF files, I just get a blank screen and am unable to save.  Any suggestions?  I have tried to check for updates but I get error 301.

What's your version of Reader, and what's your OS version?

Your OS version is more than 15 years old and not compatible with your version of Reader, so this kind of problem is not surprising.

Either upgrade to a newer OS or use an old version of Reader.

I was wrong with the OS X version - it is 10.9.5.
