Unable to sign a document in Acrobat Reader DC

I completed a particular PDF form, but when I choose "Tools" and "Sign" I did not get the tool bar shown in the instructions...only a very limited Tool Bar, with only the little rocket ship or pen...but it cannot be clicked on ...it is not highlighted.

How do I sign the document?

You don't need PDF Pack for this.

The Tools button is clearly visible in each one of the screenshots above, to the left of the file name at the top of the screen, under the menu bar.

What you see is a pen.

When I go to TOOLS, and click on option "Fill and Sign",  I get the screenshot I posted above, where at the top, there is a box for "Sign" and off to the right of it a little icon that looks like a rocket ship.....I believe it is supposed to be something I can click on to sign, but the icon isn't highlighted, and doesn't allow me to click on it.

If I put the cursor on the pen, it says I can type or draw a signature.   But no matter when I try putting my cursor, and I type, no typing appears.   Where Am I suppose to put my cursor to be able to type a signature???

I suppose I could type my name in the Disclose Statement Box at the bottom of page 3, but I cannot figure out how to draw a signature.   Is that where the signature is to appear?

To submit a manuscript to a particular journal, they require this Disclosure form as a pdf file be filled and signed.   I was able to fill it our but I have had trouble with the signature.  I did an Adobe Chat yesterday, and the person there verified that the Acrobat Reader DC would allow me to sign electronically.   There is the TOOL button for "Fill and Sign", and I did get the insertion at the top of the last screenshot with the pen......    So to answer your question, the journal says I must sign, and the Adobe Chat said I could sign using this program....it's just figuring out HOW????

When the sign icon is inactive you can't use it.

As Brend mentioned, its correct If the icon is inactive then you cant use it.

And there could be a possibility with the document's security itself.

Can you also share the screenshot of document's properties?

Open file in Reader>Right Click on it>Document Properties>Click on Security tab
