Why does a 3D PDF render so much better on a PC than on a Mac?

I am curious why this file looks so much better on a PC than on a Mac. I have played with the settings and nothing seems to improve it. Ordinary doocuments look the same on either platform, but when it comes to 3D content the Mac version is sadly lacking.

It may have something to do with Mac's Open GL vs PC's DirectX... I have also noticed differences depending on what graphics cards are in PCs. What I don't understand is why a static 2D image looks the same on either platform. Does Adobe have any suggestions for settings on the Mac version that would improve it?
