Hi Folks.
Stumbled upon a rather interesting issue where Adobe Reader crashed immediately on opening (infamous module unknown).
Went through repair, removal and re-installation, installing a different track... no luck. Same crash happens with attempting to run eula.exe which was a suggested fix.
It will open when running as admin (and by definition, i have no problem opening in my own desktop profile).
Interesting enough, Adobe WILL open if you run it from a command line, and within the users profile. So does eula.exe, but that didn't fix anything.
So... before i spend a couple of hours to recreate this persons profile over a PDF reader... is there anything that can be done to fix considering it can run from a command line?
While i wished to have time to go into deep troubleshooting to deal with it, i ended up re-creating the user profile.

Hello Decstewartje,
We're sorry for the trouble you had with Adobe Reader, as you mentioned that Adobe Reader is working as an Admin and can be launched through the command line.
What is the version of Adobe Reader installed on the user profile in which Adobe Reader application is crashing? To identify, please refer to Identify the product and its version for Acrobat and Reader DC
What is the version of the operating system installed?
For testing purpose, navigate to Adobe Reader's Preferences from Edit>Preferneces>Security(Enhanced)> and disable 'Enable Protected Mode at startup' and 'Enable Enhanced Security'> click OK, restart the application and check.
Note: Disabling Protected mode and Enhanced security is only for testing purpose, please enable it back.
Let us know how it goes and share your observation.
Thanks,
Anand Sri.

This happened with the current version of DC continuous track, and the latest update to Reader 2017.
Disabling protected mode and enhanced security was the first things to check off with troubleshooting.

Thank you for sharing the details and sorry for the trouble. Would you mind creating a test user profile with full admin rights and install Adobe Reader and check. Download Adobe Reader and Acrobat Cleaner Tool - Adobe Labs
If it is working in Admin or another user profile, you may try repairing the user profile and check.
Collect the log files of the user profile in which Adobe Reader is crashing and share it with us. I have shared the steps to collect the log files by direct message, please collect the log files, upload it to cloud storage like Adobe Document Cloud Adobe Document Cloud and share the link in the same direct message.
Thanks,
Anand Sri.
